Sector Research and Advocacy:

Presenter Resources:

  • Ecooperation:
Street Arts Nexus has joined Ecooperation: a network of national structures and festivals of outdoor theatre and circus in Europe. The aim is to connect organisers with organisers in order to stimulate more sustainable touring of artists.
    – Reduce CO2 emissions.
    – Save travel budget.
    – Book artists from far away for low travel cost.
    – Find that brilliant artist passing your town on the road in Europe.

Quickly find the colleagues that organise an event in the period before or after your own event, around the corner or just across the border. Send an Ecooperation email request to your colleague(s) through the platform. Share travelling shows.

Preliminary summary results so far:

Narrative Highlights:

  • Respondents total: 13
  • Top needs: funding support, coordinated touring, and international exchange
  • Key challenges: rising costs, lack of visibility, and inconsistent advocacy
  • Demographics: broad representation across U.S. regions and roles (artists, presenters, festivals)
  • Please add your own responses (responses will only be shared in summary field report)

From the responses to “what is the social or community impact of your outdoor programming?”

“Our outdoor programming allows access to cultural experiences to people who may otherwise be able to partake in them. It also allows us to partner with stewards of community spaces that are looking for inventive use and to draw audiences in.”

“Our park opened in Spring 2008, and it has been phenomenally successful. It now attracts more than 1.5 million visitors to its 600+ free events annually, consistently drawing local patrons. Discovery Green has catalyzed $1.25 billion in nearby development; several residential and commercial projects have expressly noted Discovery Green as the impetus for their investment. The park has also boosted business at the nearby Convention Center. Still, most importantly, Discovery Green has put downtown back on the map as a place for Houstonians to play, relax, meet one another, and even as a place to live.

“We can attract larger audiences, therefore serve more people. We can offer free or greatly reduced cost programming. We can stimulate audience imagination by introducing them to the variety of outdoor environments on our campus.”
